Evaluation of Forging Strain for Maximum Grain Size in Open-Die Forged 6061 Aluminum

چکیده
In an effort to maximize grain growth of open-die forged 6061 aluminum alloy parts, samples from three of Weber Metals’s suppliers (Hidal Co-Almex USA Inc., TST Inc., and Vista Metals Corp.; to be called Supplier H, Supplier T, Supplier V respectively) were cut into cylinders with diameters of 0.75 ̋ and heights of 2 ̋, and put through a simulated forging process and heat treatment. It is possible that additional alloying elements may be promoting or inhibiting grain growth in the final part. Maximizing grain growth for aluminum alloy parts results in improved resistance to intergranular corrosion. Samples from each vendor had grain size analysis performed

EVALUATION OF FORGING PARAMETERS ON AL-7075 AIRCRAFT DOOR BRACKET BY SIMULATION
The purpose of this research is to achieve the optimal parameters for producing forged aluminium alloy 7075 aircraft door bracket by using finite element modelling (FEM) with commercial DEFORM-3D V6.1 and physical simulations with plasticine and Plexiglas dies. Also, forging speed has been examined as the main factor for controlling to produce a part without any defects. The results of Physical...
متن کاملPrediction of Residual Stresses for a Hollow Product in Cold Radial Forging Process
Radial forging is an open die forging process used for reducing the diameters of shafts, tubes, stepped shafts and axles and also for creating internal profiles such as rifling the gun barrels. The radial forging of tube is usually performed over a mandrel to create an internal profile and/or size the internal diameter. Most of the previous studies conducted on the radial forging process have u...
متن کاملStrain Rate Sensitivity Studies of Cryomilled Al Alloy Performed by Nanoindentation
Al 5083 alloy powder was mechanically milled in liquid nitrogen to achieve a nanocrystalline (NC) structure having an average grain size of 50 nm with high thermal stability, and then consolidated by quasi-isostatic (QI) forging. The consolidation resulted in ultrafine grains (UFG) of about 250 nm, and the bulk material exhibited enhanced strength compared to conventionally processed Al 5083. T...
متن کاملStudy of microstructure and tensile properties of infrared-heat-treated cast-forged 6082 aluminum alloy
In this study, a cast rod is used as the material for the forging process (without extrusion). The cast forging process is used to ameliorate the coarse grains that form in the follow-up heating process of extrusion-forged materials. Infrared (IR) heating is also used for comparison with conventional heating processes. Experimental results show that the direct forging process (without extrusion...
متن کاملEffects of Ageing and Forging on Short-term Creep Behaviors of Inconel-713C Superalloy at 850 °C
In this paper, the short-term creep behavior of the Inconel-713C superalloy after different pre-treatments including the ageing and forging processes has been studied at 850 °C. The ageing heat treatment was heating at 930 °C for 16 hours without solutioning process. The optical microscopy (OM) and the scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques were applied for microstructural evaluations. T...
